As the workforce becomes increasingly mobile, the need for organizations to control access and protect company data on mobile devices has become more critical than ever.
When it comes to mobile security, organizations need a solution that offers advanced security controls for corporate devices and personal devices (also known as Bring Your Own Device/BYOD or Corporate Owned Personally Enabled/COPE), while providing a simplified user experience.
With the Oracle Mobile Security Suite, organizations have the flexibility to permit enterprise access from users’ devices with more granular control by isolating corporate and personal data, enabling secure enterprise application access.
There are 67 million smartphone subscribers in India and the penetration of smartphones is leading to a significant rise in the growth of enterprise mobility. 69% employees use a mobile device at work and 50% organisations in the country will adopt a BYOD strategy by 2017.
With the proliferation of mobile devices and increased BYOD adoption in India, there is a strong need for enterprises to secure corporate resource access from less secure personal devices. While security is the number one corporate mobile priority, securing this new perimeter is particularly challenging because it must address BYOD trends and resolve increasingly important data ownership and data sprawl issues, among other concerns.
The Oracle Strategy
To deliver on its commitment to help Indian enterprises address this challenge, Oracle has introduced Oracle Mobile Security Suite (OMSS) in India, to enable companies to safely provide access to sensitive enterprise applications and data on users’ preferred mobile devices.
Oracle Mobile Security Suite provides a secure workspace that will allow Indian companies to separate and protect enterprise apps and data and enforce policy while preserving privacy of users’ personal applications and content on the same device.
Oracle has made considerable investment in the security space to build a strong portfolio of Mobile security solutions. In November 2013, the company acquired Bitzer Mobile, a provider of mobile applications management solutions. The acquisition augments Oracle’s portfolio and is the core component of its mobile security strategy. While many vendors offer containerization tools, Oracle extended Bitzer’s “container” technology into its market leading Identity management platform.
This eliminates the need to set up a separate management component solely for BYOD devices by extending consistent access policies and controls beyond enterprise applications and systems to mobile devices as well as cloud based systems.
Solutions like Mobile Device Management (MDM) requires consumer devices to be locked down using device level personal identification number (PIN) and Virtual Private Network (VPN). This creates privacy and usability issues as consumer devices are required to always adhere to corporate policies even for personal use.
OMSS simplifies mobile security by isolating corporate data from personal data on consumers’ personal mobile devices without the need to lockdown the entire device. Oracle’s Mobile Security Container technology protects corporate apps and data and enables a Secure Enterprise Workspace that meets enterprise security requirements without compromising user experience.
In India, industries such as Telecom, BFSI, Healthcare, Manufacturing and IT/ITes will see heightened adoption of security solutions as more and more devices are brought into the workplace.
