Four Challenges That Can Become Opportunities for Satya Nadella

As Satya Nadella has taken the numero uno position of CEO at Microsoft, there is no doubt that he has the most globally entrenched software empire to run, but he has to look for present challenges and convert the same into opportunities for tomorrow in order to exponentially grow and face the ever changing business dynamics.

We are bringing out four challenges that can become big opportunities for the newly appointed CEO and script new success formula for the biggest software organization on the planet.

Cloud Computing

Cloud is truly the way forward, enterprise is already moving towards it, and moving forward the SME or the SMB segment will embrace cloud more fervently as well. In such a scenario, Microsoft will have to make its cloud offerings – in the form of Azure – more robust and inclusive of enterprise class infrastructure.

The good opportunity lies in the way Satya Nadella has been closely involved with architecting Microsoft’s close initiatives, and the company has a big chance of succeeding and excelling on the cloud frontiers, under his leadership.

Delivering Mobility

In today’s business world of changing dynamics, the term mobility is still holding water for many years, and Microsoft has to deliver true mobility to its set of users snapping from end user to business users. And the good news is that now it has Nokia on its side. The Nokia acquisition has the potential to bring in some hardware genius and catapult its reputation as quality mobility hardware provider.

Clean Licensing

This is quite urgently needed as a lot of enterprise customers experience real pain every day thanks to Microsoft’s complex licensing rules, which are becoming too difficult to follow for the enterprise community now.

Today a lot of enterprise customers need to maintain desktop and server and client access licenses which creates confusion at various level of IT and non IT personnel. This needs to change towards a subscription services based model which is easier to implement.

But the good news is that the company is already moving in this direction with its Windows Azure in the cloud. As having a server in Windows Azure, means that you have a Windows Server subscription. This needs to funnel through other products coming from the company.

And hence, devising and designing the right direction for the subscription based software services will hold a big opportunity for the new CEO.

Trusting Channel Partners

As a CEO of Microsoft that is ready to embrace tomorrow’s next generation opportunities Nadella must face the challenges of today and make sure that Windows in all its different forms remains quite in the helm of organizations from large enterprise to small companies and channel partners will play a key role in this software enablement.

And hence, Nadella needs to further strengthen Microsoft’s trust with partners in a renewed fashion. And one way to achieve this is to continuously keep on engaging and investing in the channel ecosystem and most importantly treat it as a strategic extension of its own image.
