BenQ’s RL2240HE is true next generation-ready 21.5-inch gaming monitor that is designed to provide solid gaming performance to the consumers – at a reasonable price.
This monitor is primed for gamers who are looking for Real-Time Strategy (RTS) gaming. The BenQ RL2240HE is an affordable 22-inch class monitor which has a speedy pixel response mechanism with low input lag. This helps in generating the best in class gaming experience.
The display of this monitor utilizes a Twisted Nematic (TN) panel that drives rich, mostly accurate colors and inky blacks, and it comes with a number of preset modes that are preconfigured for popular RTS titles. However, on the down side – there are not many features in this gaming monitor and the lack of USB port is certainly a dampener.
Design and Features
The RL2240HE’s has a 21.5-inch panel that has a maximum resolution of 1,920-by-1,080 and uses a non-reflective coating to fend off glare. This is a big benefit especially for long hours of gaming. There are five function buttons and a power switch on the right side of the cabinet. Making it easy for the users to navigate through the features, the RL2240HE uses on-screen labeling to tell its customers what each button does.
And when it comes to visibility, there are 10 pictures preset modes to choose from including Standard, Movie, Photo, sRGB, Eco, RTS 1, RTS 2, and three Gamer modes as well.
In addition to the above, there are additional settings which include Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness, Black eQualizer, and Color Temperature. The Display Mode menu offers seven aspect ratio settings that can be displayed without distorting the picture, and the Audio menu lets users to adjust volume and mute the sound.
Unfortunately, on the other hand, you don’t get many I/O ports with RL2240HE monitor. It you look at the back, there are HDMI, VGA, and DVI video inputs, and that’s it. There aren’t any USB ports or speaker inputs since this model does not have speakers, but as a big relief, there is a headphone jack for listening to HDMI-supplied audio.
Power Performance
When we tested it, the RL2240HE delivered greatly accurate colours that made our gaming conquests a lot more interesting and fun. Colors appear punched up with the panel’s inky blacks in the background, and skin tones looked completely natural when we tested it for many hours at a stretch.
The panel’s 1-millisecond (gray-to-gray) pixel response is as good as it gets. Motion blur is non-existent while running multiple set of games such as – the Aliens vs. Predator game.
Most importantly for the gamers, the RL2240HE turned in a very low input lag (the time it takes for the monitor to respond to a command from the controller) when measured by the Leo Bodnar Video Signal Lag Tester.
