BICSI, the association advancing the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) in India.
TSSC is an industry-led apex body, jointly set up by The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), Indian Cellular Association (ICA) and Telecom Centres of Excellence (TCOE) to ensure adequate availability of skilled manpower to boost growth and productivity in the Telecom Sector. The purpose of the MoU is to foster the growth and advancement of the ICT industry through collaboration and information sharing on education and training, credentialing and certification events, marketing, and standards development.
The challenges facing the ICT community increasingly require programmes and initiatives jointly developed by leading associations and industry bodies. BICSI and the TSSC recognize the collective influence and substantial expertise of industry professionals to promote best practice, spur technology innovation, and advance the overall ICT community as a whole.
According to TSSC, the Indian Telecom sector has emerged as one of the greatest economic success stories, registering a consistent overall growth rate of more than 35 percent over the past decade in terms of subscribers. India is the second largest and fastest growing telecom market in the world with 999.71 million subscribers as of April 30, 2015, with an overall tele-density of 79.56% (Source: TRAI).
Highlighting the importance of this initiative, BICSI India District Chair Ketan Kothari said, “Since BICSI India’s inception in 2003, the steering committee members and volunteers have worked diligently towards the development of the ICT industry in the country.” “With an aim to position BICSI India as a credible stakeholder in developing the ICT skill set, we initiated talks with TSSC in India. Our association with TSSC will be an important step in the right direction that will serve the needs of the ICT industry in India,” he further emphasized.
