Tata Communications – Powering Digital Transformation for Enterprise

Spotlight on Digital Transformation | ChannelDrive.in

In today’s scenario, digital transformation is becoming extremely important for organisations of different size and shape – in order to derive more from less and enable better customer experiences.

With its set of innovative solutions and initiatives as principal partner to CII for the Centre for Digital Transformation, Tata Communications is helping Indian industries assess where they stand in their digital journey.

Amit Sinha Roy, Vice President, Marketing, Tata Communications, speaks with Zia Askari from ChannelDrive.in about the company’s efforts in the direction of enabling digital transformation in India.

What are your views on digital transformation? Why is it important for you as an organisation and why it is important for your customers?

Digital transformation is about applying the right set of technologies and tools to create business efficiencies.

Therefore, established industry bodies like Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) are striving to create a global platform that allows Indian businesses to explore these new-age technologies for Indian businesses. CII aims to enable Indian companies with advanced technologies that will result in building productive and efficient business operations.

In our role as the principal partner to CII for the Centre for Digital Transformation, we help Indian industries assess where they stand in their digital journey and the right way forward. We assess companies current technology absorption potential, and draw out a roadmap of pertinent technologies they need to envisage their digital transformation journey. Therefore, we need the ecosystem and an ideal channel to choose the right partner for such technology deployment.

We also monitor how companies are implementing these technologies across their business processes and hand-hold them throughout their journey. This entire process of identifying technology needs of companies, selecting pertinent solutions, and its implementation is backed by a detailed set of information, which Tata Communications has created with CII for the digital transformation of companies.

How do you look at innovation? And what is the role of digital transformation in the space of innovation today? How is digital transformation enabling innovation?

Innovation typically revolves around business ambition. For an organisation, it is important to constantly innovate in order to bring better value to the customer with more efficiency and effectiveness. Hence, technology can be seen as an enabler of this aspiring drive to make business operations more robust, productive and rewarding, that comes with the onset of digital transformation.

For instance, technologies such as mobile, cloud, IoT and cultivation of skilled talent are key innovation drivers of a digital transformation journey.

What is the role of Tata Communications towards enabling Indian organisations to develop?

Tata Communications is one of the few companies to lay the foundation of digital transformation in India. With our experience in the field, we joined hands with CII to conceive the concept of launching the Centre of Excellence.

Herein, we have been working very closely to create a technology track to enable businesses as well as end-users to absorb, understand, and deploy the best technology available in the market.

How has been the journey so far?

We have received great feedback from all CII member companies and this reflects the strong potential of Tata Communications’ assessment criteria that fulfils the basic technology needs of companies.

So what is the way forward? What more can we expect?

Tata Communications recently unveiled its digital excellence platform, the DXcel that bridges the gap between people, process, product, and technology. We have jointly created this framework with CII to assist Indian companies achieve digitally competitive advantages and allow them a broader participation and evaluation of companies to reveal where they are in their digital transformation journey.

What are the big advantages of DX for organisations?

Adopting and adapting digital transformation is more than just an afterthought for businesses today. While DX is helping leaders reshape their businesses to create value, gain competitive advantage, meet customers’ expectations and drive more revenue, its true value lies in its ability to streamline and automate processes for high-volume recurring tasks, with greater accuracy, and reduced cost.

However, as organisations deploy technology across operations to enhance their productivity, they also need to ensure that overall business processes are working in sync with other technology modules. This sometimes demands a certain degree of reengineering. For instance, a company was facing a challenge in getting their payments cleared from a client.

Despite delivering the entire technology setup, including hardware servers as per the client specification and requirement, the company was unable to achieve the desired productivity and efficiency. A deeper analysis revealed that the company was still following an old process of getting multiple approvals on hard copies of purchase order requisitions, which decreased the overall impetus of new manufacturing process backed by the technology deployment.

What are your expectations from this platform?

The overall response so far has been unprecedented, therefore we have very high expectations going forward.

Would you also be having your set of go-to-market partners or solution enablers within the market?

Yes, there would be capability partners, like Dell that has shared an interest in working with us. Besides, we have tied up with a few other associations and companies to make this project a winning venture.
