As social media messaging is increasingly becoming an integral aspect of the entire smartphone experience, thanks to Android – local ISVs in India are cashing in on the opportunity and creating applications to target the growing market and its evolving needs for better applications interface and delivery.
As a number of ISVs in India work their way towards creating innovations in applications – games continue to be the most popular category of apps for both feature phone and smartphone users alike. According to some industry estimates, sixty-one percent of smartphone owners and 52% of feature phone owners report using a game app on a daily basis.
However, all the categories of applications are more popular on smartphones than on feature phones, the difference is more pronounced in categories such as MAPS/Navigation, where more computing power, larger screens and touch interfaces deliver a more satisfying experience for the end user community.
Directed towards the younger generation, mobile vendors are looking forward to having ‘application as a service’ that allows text messaging, hold-to-talk voice messaging, broadcast messaging, photo/video sharing, location sharing, and contact information exchange for their user communities and ISVs play an important role towards designing such ecosystems.
For mobility driven vendors, the immediate focus is on building the user base, enhancing the experience and eco-system of mobile applications – this is where ISV are creating unique value proposition for the user community.
India being one of the fastest growing markets for mobile apps and smartphone adoption, global vendors such as Samsung, Microsoft Lumia etc are confident about the success of mobile applications on the global turf including large scale adoption in India.
Moving forward, local Independent Software Vendors in India will hold the big key towards realizing the full potential of the applications for the smartphone and feature-phone categories.
