Cloudflare expands its single-vendor SASE platform

Cloudflare, Inc., the security, performance and reliability company helping to build a better Internet, has expanded its single-vendor SASE platform, Cloudflare One Services with generative artificial intelligence (AI or AI).

Cloudflare One for AI, a suite of zero-trust security controls, will enable organizations to securely use the latest generative AI tools without compromising intellectual property and customer data.

With every transformative step forward in technology – from mobile phones to cloud computing – new security threats also rise to the surface. Major companies have already banned the use of popular generative AI chat apps due to leaks of sensitive data, and Italy even imposed a temporary ban on generative AI tools due to insufficient user privacy. A KPMG surveyAccording to Generative AI, artificial intelligence is expected to have a huge impact on the economy, but the majority of US executives surveyed said it would take years to implement. Cyber security (81%) and data protection (78%) are the top concerns of executives. CISOs and CIOs must strike a balance between enabling transformative innovation through AI and continued compliance with privacy regulations. Whether it’s employee experimentation with AI or a corporate initiative, when a company’s proprietary data is exposed to artificial intelligence, there’s no turning back.

“ Artificial intelligence holds tremendous promise, but without proper security barriers, it can also pose significant risk to organizations. It’s far too easy to upload sensitive internal or customer data to AI tools by default. Once the data is used for AI training, it is virtually impossible to extract it again,” said Matthew Prince, Cloudflare co-founder and CEO. “If you wanted to allow a class of students at the university to browse the company’s internal data, then of course you would set up clear rules about what data they could access and how they could use the data in the course of their education. Cloudflare’s Zero Trust products are the first to put down the protective barriers for AI tools, so companies can embrace the opportunities AI is opening up, while ensuring that only intended data is shared with others.”

Cloudflare One for AI provides a simple, fast, and secure way for businesses to confidently build using the latest generative AI technologies without compromising security and performance. Cloudflare One gives organizations insights and metrics into how AI tools are being used. Data loss is prevented and integrations are managed:

Cloudflare Gateway helps organizations monitor how many employees are experimenting with AI services and provides context when planning budgets and enterprise licenses.

Service tokens give the steward a clear log of API requests, control over the specific services that are allowed to access AI training data, and the ability to revoke tokens with a single click when building ChatGPT plugins for internal and external use become.

Cloudflare Tunnel provides an encrypted connection to Cloudflare’s network reserved for outbound data flow. Each request is reviewed for compliance with access rules for the services protected by Cloudflare One or when teams are ready to allow an AI service to connect to the infrastructure.

Cloudflare’s Data Loss Prevention (DLP) service provides assurance to close the human gap in how employees are allowed to share data. Simple, preconfigured options can scan data that looks like social security or credit card numbers, and specialized scans can look for patterns based on data configurations for a specific team. More granular rules may even allow for the selection of users who are allowed to experiment with projects containing sensitive data, while tighter restrictions apply to the majority of teams and collaborators.

The Cloudflare Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) service provides comprehensive visibility and control over SaaS apps. Coming soon, Cloudflare CASB will also be able to sample the AI tools used by your team to detect misconfigurations and abuse.

Generative AI is an exciting technology that promises to transform the way we work. As this technology evolves and new tools and plugins are added, Cloudflare‘s security-focused platform approach will ensure organizations can take advantage of these productivity improvements anywhere without creating bottlenecks, while ensuring compliance with the latest regulations.
