Digital India 2.0 to make India world’s largest Digital Democracy

As per a compendium ‘Digital India – Way Forward’ released by DigiAnalysys at the recently concluded India Mobile Congress 2018, the Digital India marquee initiative has been able to successfully create and build digital infrastructure capacities across the country touching over a billion lives.

The report, published in a coffee table book format, discusses the nine pillars of Digital India initiative and highlights the present achievements besides some of the challenges that need to be addresses.

As per Pravin Prashant, Director and Editor DigiAnalysys, “Digital India is a flagship initiative of the government. It has all the power to transform India and make it world’s largest digital democracy. However, the need is to reincarnate some of the elements of Digital India and integrate some of the latest and emerging developments across the industry.”

The report suggests some of the key recommendations for each of the nine pillars as well as new and emerging technologies, so that Digital India can have a transformational impact on India and the Indians. The report suggests that government should immediately restructure the initiative and come up with a new framework, which is more evolved and focusses more on the applications and use cases. The report has proposed it be Digital India 2.0.

According to Faisal Kawoosa, Founder & Principal Analyst, techARC (Knowledge Partner for the Book), “There are a lot of technology disruptions taking place globally which have a great relevance for Digital India. The government must look for a new framework for Digital India that integrates emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, 5G and IoT to name a few. This will not only take the benefits of Digital India to wider population but also result in enhancing the experience.”

Discussing the impact, the book estimates that over 800 million Indians would be under Broadband coverage after the completion of projects like BharatNet, Public WiFi, etc., However, there is a need to have a greater rural focus to penetrate Digital India deep into the corners of the country.

Yogesh Joshi, Director, DigiAnalysys sharing more on this highlighted, “There is a need to have a common platform which brings the central government and all state governments together to have a uniform digital development across the country. This platform could also be used for knowledge and experience sharing.”

Besides the compendium, there’s a pan India survey on ‘Role of Technology for Creating a New Age India” is currently live and getting wider participation from the industry as well as common citizens from across the nation.
