Consider this – if just 20 percent of the on-premises customers in the U.S. shifted to the Microsoft Cloud, it would be equivalent to avoiding the citywide emissions of a city like Seattle or Torino, Italy.
That’s because today, a new study was released that found the Microsoft Cloud services are up to 93 percent more energy efficient and up to 98 percent more carbon efficient than traditional enterprise datacenters.
Across the board, and even compared to virtualized, high-end datacenters, the Microsoft Cloud is delivering big gains in energy efficiency and reductions in carbon emissions. These numbers are the result of years of work and focus to make company’s datacenters and cloud services best in class, and that includes substantial investments in sustainability.

Microsoft is focussing on the measure to continue and manage the environmental impact of its cloud service offerings. Additionally, it is also paying attention to its operating datacenters more efficiently for business, customers and the planet.
Microsoft believes that company’s datacenters powering the Microsoft Cloud will provide the high availability, resiliency and security customers need, and the energy efficiency and carbon savings they want. As a leading cloud provider, it is ambitious that the decision to increase efficiency and reduce emissions will have a positive global impact.
