MSC Industrial Supply Co., a premier distributor of metalworking and maintenance, repair, and operations products and services to industrial customers throughout North America, and Google Cloud has announced a partnership that will help drive MSC’s digital transformation and transition to a cloud-first company.
Google Cloud will support MSC’s company-wide initiative to power its business systems with data and modernize its core business and IT infrastructure in the cloud.
As part of this transition, MSC has moved its SAP systems into a Google Cloud environment to drive greater scalability and flexibility. This has enabled MSC to leverage cloud analytics capabilities and derive greater value out of its existing business data, including data from its SAP applications. MSC also has deployed a new data cloud, leveraging Google Cloud products like BigQuery, which significantly reduces the time needed to manage and analyze data.

MSC has successfully migrated to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, running on Google Cloud infrastructure. In partnership with Google Cloud and SAP, under its RISE with SAP program, MSC was able to quickly begin benefiting from cloud scalability, reliability, and performance with no disruption to its business operations. The decision to deploy S4/HANA PCE on Google Cloud also unlocked additional value from Google Cloud’s capabilities in data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine-learning capabilities, which allow MSC to better manage and analyze complex data from its SAP systems and other areas of its business.
With BigQuery, MSC’s data scientists are now able to find business insights and opportunities with much greater velocity. The cloud has democratized access to valuable information across MSC’s business, helping all of its teams make informed decisions and freeing up our associates to focus on the most important strategic priorities.
