What is SensibleVision’s entry strategy for the India market and how is SensibleVision going to revolutionize the 3D face authentication market- and how it can help in Aadhaar?
SensibleVision is in the process of establishing a network of channel partners as well as developing strategic partnerships with distributors in India. We are also working with security executives in leading IT services targeting but not limited to government services (including border control), banking, transportation and general access control applications.
SensibleVision is poised to revolutionize the 3D face authentication market for several reasons. Unlike traditional 2D only solutions, we work with more and better-quality data.
First of all, we have spent many years developing AI-driven software that can capture from 10K – 40K depth points per facial scan. Second, our solution takes advantage of today’s cost effective, tiny and accurate 3D cameras. In addition, we have developed a comprehensive database of facial profiles that includes a wide range of data from different geographies and cultures including criteria related to gender, age and race.
The key to successful, accurate and consistent 3D face authentication is having both standard 2D images and 3D depth data to enable accurate recognition. Plus, our solution will work in real time settings and does not require a person to hold still and look directly into a camera. It works in any kind of lighting – from broad daylight to complete darkness. And is not fooled by digital artifacts created when someone moves quickly past a camera or presents a photo or video attack.
In the context of Aadhaar – face recognition is already being built into the registration process. SensibleVision’s 3D solution can facilitate this 2D process – making it much more frictionless as well as more accurate.
The issue of government regulation versus market drivers: who plays what role in expediting adoption of 3D face authentication? What is your opinion on this?
Actually, the government in India’s adoption of biometrics has been leading the world. Not all government regulation is good. I took issue Microsoft president Brad Smith’s recommendation last spring that the US government step in to regulate 3D face authentication.
In the early days of any new technology adoption, there are always policy and regulatory issues that need to be addressed. But I am a strong believer in letting the marketplace and end users initially define the direction and the value proposition. These will help identify where there are issues and challenges. This insight can be used for guidance when defining regulatory policy.
Why does 3D face authentication represent a tremendous opportunity to improve secure identification in a variety of market segments?
In today’s digital economic climate, all businesses are focused on managing security risks. 3D face authentication addresses this threat by providing a fast, easy way for customers to be accurately identified in whatever ways they are interacting with a business – quickly, securely and consistently.
Most importantly, true 3D recognition can work in the real-world use cases where existing 2D solution struggle to provide dependable solutions. Secure 3D face recognition has applicability across a range of uses cases in many industries – wherever quick and positive identification is required. Applications include retail settings, transportation access, banking and financial services, healthcare and public-sector settings.
How AI, neural networks and deep learning are driving mobile face authentication solutions?

Why it’s so easy to hack most facial biometric systems…and how SensibleVision eliminates these loopholes?
The historical challenges with delivering accurate facial biometric systems have been two-fold. First, there is the issue of optics. The 2D cameras used in most solutions are not able to capture the amount of data needed to provide consistently accurate facial recognition results.
They are susceptible to photo, video and mask attacks. The error prone solutions for 2D add complexity and delay to the recognition process. If a solution is not transparent, frictionless and convenient, no one will use it voluntarily. SensibleVision’s solution leverages state of the art 3D cameras and AI-driven software to address these problems and provides virtually instant recognition.
Why do you think “lab built” solutions aren’t really suited for the real world?
Lab built is a logical starting point only. The problem with testing face authentication in a lab or an academic setting is that intentional or not, the lab controls the parameters of the test. It doesn’t deliver results that can translate to value in real world conditions. Which leads to users to potentially being misled or worse, having unrealistic expectations. Our solutions are field-tested in a range of settings with real people so skin completions and most environmental conditions are much, much less of a problem.
What are the implications of this technology for IoT and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things)?
Yes, we feel that as the Internet of Things and the IIOT continue to expand in all global markets, especially in tech-savvy countries like India, a logical strategy for managing secure access to many of these devices will include the use of AI-driven face authentication.
The increasing deployment of sensors and actuators will only serve to expand potential risk to data and applications – resulting in an increasing need for fast, transparent and accurate identification – which 3D face authentication can deliver.
