Tata Communications acquires majority stake in Commotion Inc

Tata Communications, a global leader in communications technology, has acquired a 51% stake in Commotion Inc., a leading AI-native provider of SaaS platforms for businesses with operations in the US and India.

This acquisition is a significant step in accelerating AI integration into Tata Communications’ Digital Fabric offering, particularly its Customer Interaction Suite, which includes Tata Communications Kaleyra, to create contextual and integrated, AI-driven experiences for both customers and employees.

Commotion’s orchestration engine will be integrated into Kaleyra’s core components—including channels, the Kaleyra TX Hub, and CCaaS—to automate and intelligently manage end-to-end customer journeys and shift dialogue from reactive responses to predictive and generative interactions.

Commotion supports global companies with three impact-enhancing pillars:

Omnichannel CX automation for data-driven, hyper-personalized, real-time interaction
Speech AI solutions based on AI models for extremely low-latency speech
Operational autonomous digital agents, i.e., rule-compliant, intelligent and policy-conscious AI units that operate continuously in customer-oriented and internal business functions.
The platform combines Voice AI, Agentic AI Builder and Omnichannel Journey Orchestration, enabling brands to automate complex tasks and deliver personalized interactions in real time, while transforming business processes through AI-powered digital support.

The acquisition of Commotion and the integration of its capabilities into Tata Communications’ Digital Fabric portfolio will further accelerate its own use of AI and advance the company’s journey toward becoming an AI-centric organization. This development builds on ongoing efforts to help companies move from AI experiments to scalable, business-critical transformation projects.

AS Lakshminarayanan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Tata Communications, said : “This acquisition is a significant step in our journey to redefine the customer experience in the age of AI. With Commotion’s capabilities already integrated into Tata Communications Kaleyra, we are seeing an exceptionally strong response from our customers. We expect this momentum to further accelerate our evolution into an AI-focused organization and make our Digital Fabric offering even smarter, more adaptable, and more future-proof.”

Murali Swaminathan, CEO of Commotion Inc., added: “We are thrilled to announce this important milestone on our journey. This is not just about capital. It’s about conviction, a shared purpose, and the power of combining our speed of innovation with the global reach, trusted brand, and digital expertise of Tata Communications. Together, we will fully unlock the potential of AI across many industries and develop solutions that scale responsibly and transform the world. The future isn’t just around the corner—it’s here, and it’s global.”
