Acronis Cyber Foundation , a non-profit organization from Acronis that builds schools and develops IT programs in underserved regions, recently completed the construction of a computer classroom at the Virgen de las Gracias school in the Nuevo Chimbote district in Peru.
This new classroom will allow computational knowledge and STEM classes for students in the region, and marks an important step in Phase 2 of the Acronis Cyber Foundation Initiative , empowering children in underserved communities and developing the skills necessary for them to excel in the modern world. .
The Acronis Cyber Foundation first opened the Virgen de las Gracias school in June 2019, bringing an improved school environment to the coastal region. Construction efforts were aided by members of the local community, many of whom had previously attended the school’s former facilities before becoming specialized professionals.
The school was built with sustainability in mind, with durable materials that could withstand local seismic activity. Thanks to everyone involved, Acronis was able to provide some 230 children, representing some of the poorest members of the community, with access to free education, learning materials, uniforms and school lunches.
As part of its schools initiative, Acronis Cyber Foundation aims to develop computer classrooms in each school it builds, to help students develop the STEM and IT skills they will need to self-educate and thrive in our modern world. Considering the rapidly evolving cyber threat landscape, these classrooms will have access to high-level cyber protection with free premium licenses for Acronis True Image 2021. Acronis will also develop and donate additional educational resources on topics, including computer knowledge and cybersecurity. .
The importance of digital knowledge and tools for these students is now more evident than ever. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the Peruvian government developed an online learning platform and curriculum, but many families in Nuevo Chimbote do not have cell phones and home computers and therefore cannot participate in class work. Based on the statistics of active vaccination in Peru , the situation will stabilize in the coming months and, soon, children will be able to attend the new computer installation and acquire these much needed skills.
The development of this computer classroom was a joint sponsorship effort between Acronis Cyber Foundation and its project partner, Climb Channel Solutions.

The Acronis Cyber Foundation has completed construction on 11 schools, with two more underway and five planned for the near future. The Foundation continues to seek partners for collaboration on future projects.
