How Cloud is Gaining on Enterprise Confidence
Buoyed by its special set of capabilities to seamlessly integrate application sets and enable greater productivity for the organization, cloud technologies are moving deeper inside the enterprise realm and public cloud infrastructure is set to gain further ground in India.
Even though, security on the cloud infrastructure is seen as a roadblock, it is a temporary phase that only experience with cloud time can unlock.
As rightly put by IT industry veteran, Vijay Sethi, Vice President and CIO, Hero MotoCorp, as far as security on the public cloud is concerned, it is all about the perception of the user.
“Data growth for the enterprise has increased many folds today and in such scenario, cloud holds big potential to solve basic challenges of enterprise. Cloud is surely the way ahead for the enterprise sooner or later we have to embrace cloud solutions. I like to compare the cloud security perception to people keeping their money in the banks. Earlier, people used to hesitate towards completely trusting banks with their money, but slowly banks built on the trust and now nobody keeps money at home, at their own turf and everybody keeps money in the banks. It is the same with public cloud as well. However, enterprise should do their due diligence while selecting the cloud service providers,” he explains.
As enterprise look for best in class solutions to power their applications on the public cloud infrastructure, companies such as Ctrls Datacenter are helping enterprise community to make this transition towards cloud.
“Today enterprise are realizing the fact that public cloud infrastructure is more secured and delivers better TCO for the enterprise. While private cloud solutions may or may not have the DR capabilities, public cloud delivers DR capabilities that can multiply an enterprise data reliability many folds,” explains, Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Founder & CEO, CtrlS Datacenters Ltd. data center solutions driven by CtrlS enable enterprise customers to support changing business models at the right time, the right place, and from the best sources, and flexibly deliver IT services in the manner that best serves business needs.
Echoing similar overtones, Altaf Halde, Managing Director, Kaspersky Lab, South Asia says that the year 2014 will see the logical extension of BYOD – Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC).
“This is already happening: using their own devices employees not only process business documents, they also store those documents in third-party cloud storage. If they don’t have immediate access to a text editor they use a publicly available cloud-based one. If they don’t have a corporate tool to prepare a fantastic presentation, again they go into the cloud. Of course those documents and presentations might contain very sensitive information. Companies need to pay attention to the security and reputation risks associated with this and implement secure access and encryption technologies to support this trend. For a security vendor, it opens a range of opportunities to develop outstanding products which will efficiently protect against the most dangerous threats,’ he adds.
On the other hand, Naresh Sharma, Director, Channel Sales, CA Technologies, opines that today’s enterprises understand the real value of public cloud in terms of cost efficiency, time to market and in its ability to grow new models for business.
“Owing to the same, the importance of cloud and the adoption of cloud is growing at a rapid pace. Enterprises today are open to looking at public cloud options compared to in-house private cloud setup. Also, many large enterprises today do not have captive data centers and are hosted with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) who also providing cloud services. The primary benefit of cloud is achieving the economies of scale. It helps in growing the volume output of productivity with fewer resources bringing down the cost. Cloud helps in reduction of overall cost of production. Cloud reduces the spending on technology and allows access to data from anywhere,” he adds on.
Moving forward, as enterprise look for better options to enable end to end mobility for their work group and at the same time gain on their cloud experiences, public cloud infrastructure is set to gain prominence and take the enterprise community towards a better and more productive ecosystem that is nourished by the cloud.
