F-Secure Unveils Internet Security 2016 with Enhanced Network Protection and Cloud Cleanup

Enhancing its product features in order to drive better security for its customers, F-Secure has released Internet Security 2016 as part of its F-Secure SAFE multi-device security offering.

The updated version of the award-winning security software adds network-security awareness through its Network Checker, a new Cleanup solution that uses proprietary “Lighthouse” cloud-scanning technology that can thwart advanced infections, and a range of other features to make the product easier to use and more proactive at eliminating online threats.

“Internet Security packs the best protection in the industry into a single, user friendly piece of software,” said Antero Norkio, F-Secure Director, Device Security. “We consistently win awards for our protection technology, and adding enhanced protective features, like Networks Checker’s network-security, gives people tools that can proactively find and eliminate risks.”

Network Checker is a localized version of F-Secure’s popular Router Checker tool that checks Internet configurations to see if the Internet settings have been tampered with. One recent investigation discovered a malicious campaign attempting to change people’s Internet configurations had received nearly one million unique hits in a single day.

Attackers attempt to use these tactics to change settings in people’s routers to manipulate the Internet traffic of any device that connects to it – a strategy that lets them compromise large groups of people at once, and remain undetected by conventional security software.

“Online threats are always evolving, and security needs to evolve with it,” said Norkio. “Network Checker’s capabilities helps Internet Security expand its protection to cover networks, which is imperative as people begin using a greater range of networked devices.”

Cleanup and Scan Wizard Make Security Easy

Internet Security 2016 also features a new Cleanup solution that brings the advanced technologies used by operators and Internet service providers to people’s PCs. It uses F-Secure’s proprietary “Lighthouse” technology, which differs from regular real-time scanning by using cloud-computing to run the scan. Adding capabilities from the cloud lets Internet Security address advanced threats such as botnets – a problem faced by many organizations that manage networks. It also allows people to install Internet Security on machines already suffering from a malware infection, and remove advanced types of malware designed to thwart conventional security solutions.

“We’ve combined two great assets here. Our industry leading expertise in fighting malware, and the network layer experience we’ve developed by working with more than 200 operators,” said Norkio. “It shows how we’re able to leverage experience with world’s largest companies into stronger, better products for everyone.”

Both the Cleanup tool and the new Scan Wizard use new visualizations to make the scanning process more accessible to people running the software. When using the Scan Wizard, its progress is now clearly indicated with both a progress bar and a percentage, and any harmful items found during the scan are listed for the user to inspect. These harmful items can include things like malware, spyware, or even potentially unwanted applications. People can also now choose to address these threats individually, or altogether with the push of a single button.

Internet Security 2016 is the central PC component in F-Secure SAFE, which is a multi-device offering designed to give people the best protection for their PCs, Macs, and mobile devices. Internet Security 2016 is available for PCs running Microsoft Windows, and supports the recently released Windows 10.
