FEELM implements energy management system to build environmentally friendly factory

FEELM implemented an energy management system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption.

The system collects real-time data on electricity consumption during production , allowing factories to make adjustments to maximize efficiency. It supports real-time monitoring, calculation and processing of electricity consumption, setting the benchmark for carbon emissions calculations. The system is mapped onto a data platform to measure these emissions and check for anomalies.

In FEELM’s fully automated factory, this resulted in a significant reduction in power consumption in non-production areas. In the first 5 months of 2022, this reduction was 720,000 kWh or 188.4 tons of carbon emissions. Efficiency in the manufacturing sector has also increased and the average output per kWh increased from 177 RMB in 2020 to 245 RMB in 2022.

FEELM has also joined the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and aims to be carbon neutral by 2050. The CDP is a directory for the environmental reporting of organizations and companies worldwide. As the first technology brand in China’s e-cigarette industry, FEELM has started to integrate R&D, manufacturing and sales to achieve this goal.

Energy is still wasted in the manufacturing of e-cigarettes due to factors such as inconsistent data collection methods, changes in production parameters, delayed data collection, and inconsistent device specifications/monitoring systems. Improving efficiency in terms of low resource use is key for the e-cigarette industry to realize its potential.

FEELM therefore introduced the industry’s first automated production line in 2019. The following year, the company initiated the transition to a fully automated production line. Thanks to its energy monitoring management system, it can create visual graphics after uploading to the cloud, and the factory has optimized the operation of lighting, ventilation, heating and water pumps. This allows managers to streamline processes to avoid waste.

The result is that carbon emissions on the production line have been significantly reduced, which has helped reduce the product’s pre-market carbon footprint. As a result of these measures , approximately 1,249,500 kWh of electricity were saved in the first half of this year, which corresponds to a reduction in carbon emissions of 326.9 tons.

Head of Automation at FEELM, David Lv, said: “Maximizing the output of each kWh is a long-term strategy and data collection is just the first step. We will continue to improve the energy classification and usage strategy in the future to make the factory more efficient and energy-saving.”

In addition, FEELM has set up a professional carbon neutrality monitoring team, as the organization of the company’s internal resources and the optimization of its carbon consumption are still ongoing.
