How SDN and NFV are set to Drive Software-Based Networking Ahead

There is a far more relevance of software within the networking domain today than it was ever before. And this also means that for the partner community, it has to adopt to the software-driven approach.

As enterprise and telecom networks are trying to invent themselves – achieving better operational efficiencies and creating better business agility – it is increasingly getting down to having the right software attributes in terms of integrating various functions of storage, networking and computing in a single thread. This is where SDN and NFV are helping the enterprise.

SDN-NFV

The vision for NFV is really astonishing because the benefits could be readily attained. By replacing typical network appliances based on proprietary hardware with virtualized network functions (VNFs) running on industry standard servers, enterprise networks and even telecom networks could exponentially accelerate their time to market for rolling out next generation services, while at the same time drive streamlining of their operations with the help of automation.

On the other hand, the term ‘Software Defined Networking’ is now delivering a new found freedom for the enterprise and the telecom world – as now it is really becoming possible to implement a fully programmable software environment for storage, network as well as computational efforts.

This is heralding a new wave of innovation not only for the vendors such as VMware, HP, Dell or EMC but also driving a lot of innovative solution providers to deliver innovation for their enterprise customers.

In a more simplistic term, concepts around NFV unleashes network functions which are hitherto trapped inside a hardware box and push the enterprise or telecom network to achieving greater and bigger organizational benefits.

With SDN and NFV gaining ground within the enterprise and telco ecosystems, solution providers and next generation technology partners must act now and start integrating new age solutions that will harness the power of SDN and NFV for their end customers.
