MongoDB Embraces Microsoft and Google Cloud Solutions

Oracle’s NoSQL fierce competitor aligns new pacts to get inside major cloud solutions

MongoDB, the global database provider for modern applications and a fierce competitor to Oracle, has announced the creation of a developer-friendly experience that enhances modern application development on Google Cloud Platform’s Compute Engine.

Together, MongoDB and Google Compute Engine offers the high performance, reliability and cost-effective scale designed for how today’s applications are built and deployed.

“This is the first of many ongoing, collaborative efforts to bring the best MongoDB experience to Google Compute Engine,” said Vijay Vijayasankar, VP of Global Channels and Business Development at MongoDB. “Working with Google represents another critical step in our mission to make it easy for customers to deploy MongoDB on any cloud they choose.”

With no upfront licensing or maintenance fees, MongoDB on Google Compute Engine offers a cost effective solution compared with traditional database options running on premise. Server Density(link is external), a real-time server and website monitoring solution, has significantly reduced operational overhead and improved performance by running MongoDB on Google Compute Engine.

“We can very quickly spin up new MongoDB shards to scale writes and resyncing replica nodes is trivial due to the exceptional networking performance across Google Compute Engine zones,” said David Mytton, CEO, Server Density. “Using snapshots has simplified our backup and disaster recovery strategy and gives us brand new functionality, like being able to migrate workloads around the world. On top of that, we’ve improved performance from an average of 10,000 ops per second with our old, bare metal, SSD-based environment, to an average of 480,000 ops per second on Google’s persistent disks, all with no additional effort.”

MongoDB Embraces Microsoft Azure

MongoDB, has also announced a fully-managed, highly available MongoDB-as-a-service offering available as an Add-On in the Microsoft Azure Store. The offering, announced at MongoDB’s inaugural global community event – MongoDB World, is delivered in collaboration with Microsoft Corp. and MongoLab.

“By using MongoDB on Microsoft Azure, our customers can be sure that they will enjoy the same high level of support and scalability they have come to expect from MongoDB, in the cloud,” said Vijay Vijayasankar, VP of Global Channels and Business Development at MongoDB. “Customers can now easily access and manage MongoDB in the fully-managed MongoDB-as-a-service offering.”

The new service, which combines technologies from MongoDB and MongoLab, runs MongoDB Enterprise and makes it easier to deploy MongoDB applications in the cloud by offering replication, monitoring and support from MongoDB, Inc. The service is backed up by MongoDB Management Service (MMS), allowing for point-in-time recovery of MongoDB deployments.

“It’s great to see MongoDB in the Azure Store(link is external). This is a significant milestone in a multi-year relationship between Microsoft Open Technologies, Microsoft Azure and MongoDB to provide developers with additional choices for a database designed for modern applications,” said Gianugo Rabellino, senior director of open source communities at Microsoft Open Technologies, Inc. “A scalable, resilient and supported MongoDB is now just a few clicks away from our Azure customers, enabling new and exciting scenarios for cloud developers.”
