What is the big focus for EMC today?

Even though, traditionally we have been seen as a storage company, today we are focusing our efforts towards two areas of cloud and big data. Both these areas are going to have a profound impact on how enterprise move ahead with their IT implementations.

What are some of the big trends that are reshaping the data center space?

There is this emergence of third platform where most of the data center action is set to take place. This platform is primarily driven by the surge in data coming in from different directions, there are huge number of applications that are further driving data volumes. Technologies on mobile, cloud, big data and social are reshaping the way data centers perform and behave and hence we have a situation where enterprise need to bind all this with trust. This is what is set to drive next generation data center technology ahead.

Trust is getting too important for mobile, cloud, big data and social environments

Why should an enterprise go for software defined data center strategy?

This is creating a whole new perspective for business boardrooms now. Earlier it was all about reducing cost lines and the risk factor now it is more about increasing on the revenues. So we have a technology that can reduce on the infrastructure cost, reduce risk of data loss and at the same time increase their revenue as well. All this is driving software defined data center approach for the enterprise segment today.

How Software Defined data Center approach is different from the present practices?

Today’s data centers still have a lot of manual interventions and hence it takes a lot of effort even to manage a small amount of change in this IT infrastructure. On the other hand, in a SDDC scenario, all infrastructure is virtualized and delivered as a service and the control of this Datacenter is entirely automated by software. So this has very little manual intervention and hence it takes lesser effort to manage this next generation data center infrastructure.

What is the go to market strategy that EMC has towards realizing the full potential of SDDC?

We are a completely channel partner driven organization and hence, we are working very closely with our partners to take this concept to our end customers and the enterprise segment.

We have partners such as Wipro, HCL, Dimension Data who are working with us to take this concept ahead to our customers in India.

How do you plan to support your channel partners in terms of creating a better understanding towards SDDC?

Channel partner support and training is a continuous process for EMC and we are engaged in multiple set of support efforts with our channel partners. As far as SDDC is concerned, we are in the process of creating specific training modules and a program that will cover all the aspects of SDDC for our partners.
