Carrefour Taps Vusion to Implement Smart Store Strategy

Carrefour, a leading global food retailer, and Vusion , the world’s leading provider of digitalization solutions for brick-and-mortar retail, has announced the signing of a strategic partnership. As part of its “Carrefour 2030” plan, Carrefour has chosen the Vusion platform to digitize all its hypermarkets and supermarkets in France by 2030.

This significant strategic partnership includes the introduction of the latest generation of electronic shelf labels, smart shelf rails, and AI-powered cameras to improve operational efficiency and customer experience in retail outlets.

Following an initial large-scale rollout in the United States at Walmart, Vusion and Carrefour are now sealing an important technological alliance for Europe. In this context, Carrefour is joining the technology platform’s International Advisory Board.

Alexandre Bompard, Chairman and CEO of Carrefour, stated : “Carrefour 2030 is a growth plan based in particular on accelerating the deployment of technology and AI. Through our partnership with Vusion, a French technology leader with a global reach, we are ushering our stores into a new era. The digitalization of our shelves is the essential foundation for realizing our vision of a modern retail experience that benefits competitiveness, the quality of life of our employees at work, and customer satisfaction.”

Thierry Gadou, Chairman and CEO of Vusion , commented: “We share the same vision with Carrefour: modern retail outlets at the heart of tomorrow’s omnichannel commerce. We will realize this vision in the coming years. Following Walmart’s decision to deploy EdgeSense in all its US stores, Carrefour is the first major European retailer to implement Vusion’s latest-generation platform at scale. The project pursues three objectives: to improve brand performance, customer satisfaction, and employee satisfaction.”

By equipping its shelves with millions of cloud-connected smart labels, Carrefour is taking a decisive step towards digitizing its physical value centers. This massive rollout positions Carrefour as the most advanced retailer in Europe in terms of store technology and reflects the transformation initiated in the grocery retail sector across the Atlantic with Vusion. It follows successful pilot projects launched since June 2025.

The solutions used combine the – Vusion IoT infrastructure: For real-time price updates and employee support through light signals (“pick-to-light”) EdgeSense™ technology: Bluetooth-connected rails that enable automatic product tracking to optimize e-commerce order preparation and shelf replenishment.

Captana Artificial Intelligence: Micro-cameras that continuously analyze shelves to automatically detect stock shortages, price discrepancies, and errors in planogram implementation.

For Carrefour, this alliance directly serves the financial and operational goals of the 2030 plan:

Productivity: Automating low-value tasks to free up teams for customer service and equipping them with intelligent data and AI-powered tools to drive priority actions and improve compliance.

Customer experience: Time savings, personalized services and real-time interaction for a smoother shopping experience

Revenue: Reducing stockouts to maximize product availability
E-commerce: Performance improvement thanks to geolocation

Retail Media: Creating a new digital communication channel directly on the shelf and monetizing data

For Vusion, this contract confirms the relevance of its technology platform for the world’s largest retailers and accelerates its penetration of the European market.
