Thales picks Google to drive security capabilities on generative AI

Thales, a global technology and security enabler, has announced a new collaboration with Google Cloud to develop new data security capabilities powered by generative AI, which will improve the ability of enterprises to to discover, classify and protect your most sensitive data. The alliance is part of Thales’ Generative AI strategy to bring new AI-powered features and experiences to users of Thales’ CipherTrust data security platform.

More and more organizations store sensitive information in the cloud. Yet only 24% of them know where all their data is stored, according to Thales’ 2023 Data Threat Report . Building on a collaboration with Google Cloud, Thales will use AI to enhance the power of its CipherTrust Data Security Platform to discover, classify and protect sensitive data in the cloud, enabling companies to improve operational efficiency. , compliance time and closing security gaps.

The Smart Protection service of the CipherTrust platform will add a new machine learning feature, called “Data Discovery and Classification Machine Learning”, which will be powered by Vertex AI and will enhance conventional discovery and classification. Thanks to machine learning, data is classified into different categories and subcategories, leveraging “named entity recognition” to discover a range of different types of sensitive information. Machine learning techniques will improve data discovery and classification by using semantic context to discover and classify sensitive information from a number of corporate document repositories, while ensuring as long as sensitive data is kept within established limits.

Sebastien Cano, Senior Vice President of Cloud Protection and Licensing activities at Thales, says: “Through this collaboration, Google Cloud’s leading AI capabilities will further enhance the performance of the Intelligent Protection of the Thales CipherTrust platform. , which aims to solve security challenges through the discovery and classification of sensitive information. Together, both technologies will enable powerful AI-powered features that automate critical tasks for customers and ensure their sensitive data in the cloud remains securely protected and within established policies.”

Sunil Potti, General Manager and Vice President of Cloud Security at Google Cloud, says : “The accessibility and protection of data in the cloud is essential to the success of companies. We are proud to partner with Thales to bring together their CipherTrust intelligent protection platform with our Vertex AI solution, helping customers enjoy faster, more agile experiences to discover and classify their most critical data without fear of data breaches or theft. sensitive information”.
