Why Japan is Important for India’s Digital Dreams

As Indian government is moving ahead with its plan to digitize India, a technologically much more matured country like Japan can increase the level of trust and quality assurance in IT and communications systems and help India realize the full potential of embracing IT and communications in the right direction.

Whether it is smartification of cities such as Varanasi or introduction of Bullet Trains, creating platforms for better ICT led governance or even research and development focused segments such as high performance computing – Japanese companies such as Hitachi, Fujitsu or Ricoh can provide crucial support ecosystem needed to make the big difference on the ground turf.

In addition to the technological knowhow, now the government of India is also opening up its doors for Japanese banks which will further stir the prospects of India and Japan techno-economic bondage on the long run.

As a nation, India is undergoing massive changes in terms of usage of technology and communications and whether it is a school, college or Railways system, moving forward, more and more people likely to be touched by technology in small towns and villages. In this scenario, it becomes very important for India to partner with globally respected technology players that can support and cultivate technology led innovation in the right direction.

We already have ongoing projects such as the Network for Spectrum (NFS) project which involves creation of huge level of communications infrastructure, the NOFN (National Optical Fiber Network) the Department of Posts RH project (Rural Hardware project) and the government’s commitment to have 100 smart cities in the country.

All these national level projects will call for huge investments in technology and planning and country level partnerships can further enhance the chances of success of these projects at the execution of excellence level and deliver a unique global quality of experience for Indians.
