SCG Taps AWS to Digitally Transform Customer Experience Across ASEAN

Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company, has announced that Siam Cement Group (SCG), a leading business conglomerate in ASEAN, innovating cement building materials, chemicals, and packaging, has selected AWS as its preferred cloud provider to accelerate its digital transformation.

To better serve customers, and drive efficiencies for growth, SCG has migrated mission-critical SAP workloads, including its enterprise resource planning (ERP) and data warehousing software for several business units, to AWS.

By running its SAP workloads on AWS, SCG is combining real-time inventory and production data across operations in various locations, such as Vietnam. This helps SCG develop new services that improve the customer experience by enabling easy and secure access to various services, while reducing information technology (IT) costs by 30%.

SCG needed to meet the growing demand for innovative services that their customers have come to expect. SCG uses Amazon API Gateway, a fully managed service to create, publish, maintain, monitor, and secure application programming interfaces (APIs) to facilitate API adoption across the company. Additionally, SCG operates a SQL data warehouse on SAP with AWS that helps the company easily integrate data from multiple SAP ERP. By seamlessly connecting applications across mobile, cloud, and web, SCG offers improved customer service, such as embedded order instructions.

Using AWS, SCG developed Trinity, an Internet of Things (IoT) platform that that connects SCG, Business Partners, and third-party solution providers to provide smart living solutions, like elderly- and patient-monitoring systems and air-quality control solutions, in residential buildings. Trinity is part of SCG’s Born in Thailand (BiT) vision which aims to create Thai innovations, develop talent and drive Thailand’s transition to becoming a maker economy. Trinity uses services such as AWS IoT Greengrass to build intelligent devices faster. AWS IoT Core enables easy and secure device connections to the cloud, such as automatic light sensors and smart thermostats. Through partnerships with property-management companies, SCG will deploy Trinity to 10,000 homes in Thailand within two years. It will also work with AWS to scale in Thailand and internationally with the goal of installing Smart Home solutions in at least 40,000 homes by 2024.

The Accenture AWS Business Group (AABG), a decade-long collaboration between Accenture and AWS, supported SCG’s cloud journey. Accenture’s IT One Thai subsidiary led SCG’s AWS migration. IT One modernized SCG’s SAP systems on AWS, building the technology foundation to develop new services with automatic IT infrastructure provisioning, improved security controls, and easy group-wide software updates. AABG combines the resources, technical expertise, and industry knowledge of Accenture and AWS to help companies like SCG thrive in the cloud. This team delivers SAP solutions that support cloud adoption at speed and scale, enabling enterprises to accelerate the pace of digital innovation and achieve business value from cloud adoption and transformation.

“AWS is supporting our digital transformation as we strive to become more innovative and efficient,” said Yuttana Jiamtragan, Vice President – Corporate Administration, SCG. “By moving our SAP workloads to the cloud and by tapping into advanced AWS’s IoT capabilities, we have become more agile and innovative, while reducing IT costs. We are excited about the potential of the cloud and look forward to further leveraging AWS’s capabilities to reduce cost and enhance our operations.”

“Across the region, organizations are leveraging the cloud to rapidly evolve, become more efficient, and innovate,” said Vatsun Thirapatarapong, country manager, AWS Thailand. “AWS is helping SCG improve its systems with our world-leading cloud infrastructure, which will soon include the AWS Bangkok Region. SCG sets an industry-leading standard by harnessing its data i and applying it to improve operations and develop exciting new customer services.”
